Now that summer is in full swing, most gardeners are putting their green thumbs to work on a daily basis. A gorgeous garden requires diligent work – all that weeding, pruning and planting eventually pays off in unsurpassed visual splendor. But sometimes, despite a gardener’s best efforts, a garden can come off looking a bit disorganized.

Stepping stones act as a simple guide for visitors. They can be positioned in such a way that the eye naturally follows them from plant to plant, admiring the whole of the scenery rather than getting lost in the shuffle. Many gardeners underestimate the importance of uniting their flowers behind a cohesive theme. Stepping stones are just the thing to provide your blooms with a sense of inviting harmony.

My sister is constantly adding new gardens to her outdoor living space. Winding pathways join the  pergola and fish pond and she placed cast iron  garden stepping stones every 4 feet to guide visitors on to see her abundant floral displays.

A Rustic Garden has several rustic stepping stones and this stepssun face is one of the newest style. These long lasting stones are a good choice when using them in regions where the ground freezes and flaws.

History of Cast Iron

squirrel-cast-iron-stepping-stoneCast iron has been used for ages for a variety of architectural and aesthetic purposes. To that end, cast iron was commonly used to make items such as wagon wheels and bridges. The metal itself has very specific qualities, and these qualities make its use limited to these specific purposes. With that in mind, cast iron is not useful when you need a sharp edge or any kind of flexibility. These characteristics have been true since its invention in China, when the metal was used to create figurines and various weapons.

Cast iron was also found to be useful in textile mills, where wooden frames were replaced by cast iron. This replacement was made in reaction to so many textile mills burning to the ground. Into the modern age, cast iron has extended its uses into the home decoration arena. Its durability has made it popular for such outdoor products as cast iron bird baths or even a cast iron stepping stone. Able to withstand outdoor conditions, cast iron is ideal for these items because it is not overly susceptible to rust or other kinds of outdoor weakening.
