Cast Iron Urns
There are many places to find planters and urns for your porch or garden. Most of the flower planters you can find in the big box stores end up being plastic or fiberglass. When purchasing these types of materials consumers often feel like they are getting a discount planter. In reality the short lifetime of these cheap containers will mean you will need to buy a new planter every spring.
Cast iron garden urns could the most durable material out there today. Even concrete flower planters will freeze and thaw in colder climates and eventually crumble and crack. If you are looking for a decorative flower container that you would like to last decades rather than months, a cast iron garden planter could be the best choice out there today.
Cast Iron Birdbath for Feathered Friends
Keeping a cast iron birdbath near your patio makes the time outdoors more enjoyable. Pick an interesting form that fits your space and plant a few flowers around it.
The birds will love the water to splash in. A friend of mine has been noticing a bird that must have had babies nearby. She would find a worm then take it to the bird bath to rinse it off then fly away. Must have had several babies to feed because she would do it all over again.

Fencing on a wall
Many homes and properties have a retaining wall or a stone or brick wall that serves as a border. A wrought iron fence can be installed on top of a stone wall that can create an old world look that results in a functional barrier. Our wrought iron interlocking fences have stakes that anchor the fencing every 14.5″. With a hole drilled into the wall at every spot where a stake goes down and a little bit of cement, the iron fence can become a permanent fixture.
Our wrought iron fences can also be attached to a hard surface by using our 1.5″ steel posts with a cast iron shoe attached to the base. The shoe allows you to bolt the fence post down and will add stability to your entire iron fencing run.
History of Cast Iron
Cast iron has been used for ages for a variety of architectural and aesthetic purposes. To that end, cast iron was commonly used to make items such as wagon wheels and bridges. The metal itself has very specific qualities, and these qualities make its use limited to these specific purposes. With that in mind, cast iron is not useful when you need a sharp edge or any kind of flexibility. These characteristics have been true since its invention in China, when the metal was used to create figurines and various weapons.
Cast iron was also found to be useful in textile mills, where wooden frames were replaced by cast iron. This replacement was made in reaction to so many textile mills burning to the ground. Into the modern age, cast iron has extended its uses into the home decoration arena. Its durability has made it popular for such outdoor products as cast iron bird baths or even a cast iron stepping stone. Able to withstand outdoor conditions, cast iron is ideal for these items because it is not overly susceptible to rust or other kinds of outdoor weakening.
Make your Wrought Iron Planter Special

Your wrought iron planter will attract lots of attention when you use Sphagnum Moss to line the inside. I wrap saran wrap around the outside then load my wet moss into the decorative container. I add my potting soil then a variety of garden plants before removing the plastic wrap.
An inexpensive way to plant your rod iron garden planters is to line them with burlap found in the fabric department of Wal Mart. I choose the darker colors and tuck the edges toward the inside then plant.
