customized-fencingRecently a customer needed to fill the openings on their outdoor deck.  They wanted to use wrought iron gates to fill the entrances.  With five different openings of all different sizes we needed to fill each area with a custom sized section of fencing and a wrought iron gate.

We used our steel fence posts that bolted to the deck floor to hinge and latch the iron gates to and from.  The remaining gaps on each side of the gates and posts were filled with various wrought iron fence sections that also bolted to the railings for extra support.  At A Rustic Garden we can fill any size opening with with a customized fencing solution.

My sister is constantly adding new gardens to her outdoor living space. Winding pathways join the  pergola and fish pond and she placed cast iron  garden stepping stones every 4 feet to guide visitors on to see her abundant floral displays.

A Rustic Garden has several rustic stepping stones and this stepssun face is one of the newest style. These long lasting stones are a good choice when using them in regions where the ground freezes and flaws.

iron fencingIn many historic districts homeowners are limited in the types of materials allowed for fencing projects.  A wrought iron fence is a great option that most homeowners associations are thrilled to approve.

A salvaged antique iron fence can be expensive and hard to find the right amount for your yard.  A Rustic Garden has a complete line of wrought iron fencing and gates made to fit any size yard or garden.

fenceIf you have a home with a garden area, it can be a challenge compartmentalizing different aspects of your home. But if you’re looking for an easy way to keep your garden area separate from your outdoor patio or other outdoor area, just invest in a few ornate fences or ornamental garden edging. These products can come in a variety of materials, but most often, they are produced in wrought iron. This is because that material is visually appealing and it can withstand outdoor conditions.

There are also some other distinct advantages to these kinds of garden fences. While they absolutely add some visual appeal to your garden, they are also helpful for keeping your plants safe from wandering animals or individuals. By putting a physical barrier between your plants and the walkway, animals are all the more likely to stay clear of those flower beds. They also can help keep your animal inside your own yard, which is good for you, because it means they’re less likely to get lost. But it’s also good for your neighbors, because your animal won’t be wandering the streets and causing problems on their property.

Time to Purchase Flowers for Your Garden Planters

This is the best time to shop for beautiful flowers for your garden planters.  I prefer colorful foliages as well as flowering annuals.  I really crowd the flowers in my containers but always add time released fertilizer when planting and will add a mixture of  fertilizer and water every couple weeks.

My circa 1848 home in Illinois has several antique cast iron urns that accent my flower beds year round but of course this is the very best time of year when everything is coming to life and my urn planters are overflowing with colormyflowers-015.

The Old Garden Gate

Many of life’s happy memories go back to childhood days. My grandmother lived across the street from me on the family farm and I remember going to see here every day. She was always busy picking berries, feeding the chickens or separating the cream from the milk.

The chicken yard was just beyond  the old garden gate and I was  fascinated with barnyard fowl but would not go through that rustic iron gate without my grandmother. The turkeys scared me! I am sure they were not as large as my memory pictures them but the turkeys would chase and try to peck at me. Seems funny now how being chased by a turkey becomes a happy memory.

Climbing flowers and vines can be found as annuals or perennials.  I have found that annual climbers sometimes reseed and become troublesome the following years. I am constantly pulling a variegated variety that will totally cover all my flowers in several beds if left to grow.

Plan your flower gardens using a wrought iron trellis or arbor to add interest and control your climbing vines. Plan ahead when purchasing a trellis, arbor or even gazebo to fit your garden plants. Climbing vines can vary allot trellisin size and weight.
