Decorating Your Rural Retreat
City life has its charms – there’s no denying that. It often means easy access to boutique stores, fine dining and cutting-edge entertainment. But the urban grind has its pitfalls as well. Safety issues, noise and overcrowding all have a tendency to convince people that perhaps the country life is more desirable after all. If you’ve recently purchased a slice of heaven in the form of a rural home, you’ll want to decorate accordingly.
Rustic birdhouses make a sensible addition to your exterior décor – they can be attached to a tree or affixed to a porch railing. As is always the case with effective accessories, these birdhouses don’t draw attention away from the centerpiece: the home itself. From a practical standpoint, you’ll be providing shelter to a few of your new neighbors. Don’t forget to watch as their young learn to fly.
Rustic Decor Decorating
Rustic Decor covers so many different tastes. I love country antiques and gardening so my living space always leans to the rustic garden iron or primitive furniture. Painted products like country cupboards from the late 1800’s are my favorites. Color brings life to your decorating whether it is new paint or old crazed country colors.
I bring antiques out to my gardens when possible. An old iron bed will make a great trellies or back drop for one of your flower gardens.
This picture shows old rustic pie cupboard doors hanging on the wall with a stoneware crock sitting next to grain painted commode. Notice how the 1880’s quilt softens the setting by adding another splash of color.
Cast Iron Urns Make Great Outdoor Fountains
You can make anything an outdoor fountain. Cast iron garden urn planters can be transformed easily by closing the drainage hole to fit the size of the tubing that is attached to your pump. The hose recycles the water from the bottom reservoir up into the bowl of the urn . It will fill up then overflow the edge and drop down to the reservoir.
Outdoor fountains
bring a peaceful sound to your patio and gardens. They can be large or small, just pick a design that makes you feel good. After all that is the main objective.
