Appropriate Décor for a Hunting Camp

resin-antler-lampNovember is synonymous with two great traditions, at least here in the United States. There’s Thanksgiving, of course, a time when family and relatives reconnect over a feast of turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie. But before those festivities begin, rifle hunting season arrives. I like to head out to camp on opening weekend with a few close buddies.

In years past, we’ve been sure to bring all the usual provisions – pickled bologna, crackers, peppermint schnapps and several decks of cards for euchre. We wake up early to head out to the deer blinds and we don’t retire until long after the sun sets. This year I purchased a special new item for the old camp – a resin antler lamp that should serve as inspiration to haul in prized buck of our own.

Creating Some Boundaries

yard-fencing

My wife and I have never had any conflicts with our next door neighbors; in fact, our relations with them are cordial if not downright friendly. Still, we’ve always been insistent about staking a claim to our own backyard. The neighbor’s dog has a habit of crossing over onto our property to relieve itself, which wouldn’t be a problem if it weren’t for the nitrogenized dead patches in the lawn.

We decided to take action by putting up some decorative wrought iron yard fencing. The new fence doesn’t keep the dog out per se, but it does send a subtle message to our neighbors that we’d like our property to be respected. Since installing the fence myself, I’ve noticed a marked decrease in the number of times Rover wanders over to do his business in our backyard.
