Annuals for Spring and Summer

During spring and summer, annual flowers add beauty to a garden or exterior location. However with a garden full of perennials, shrubs, and trees it’s sometimes difficult to find a location for them. To have the opportunity to appreciate annuals without uprooting your garden, garden planters or pots are a solid option. These can be placed on your porch, driveway, or hung down from the roof, and are easy to move out once the annuals have been bitten by the first frost.
Outdoor planters are available empty, or sometimes in spring and summer come pre-filled with annuals and other flowers.
Wood, Fabric, Metal, Glass, or Plastic
With out a doubt, plastic will not be found often on the website A Rustic Garden. And to think my brother manufactures plastic field tile. Timewell Tile works night and day to pour out rolls and rolls or plastic.
Rustic Garden Decor does not seem authentic when made from plastic but looking into glass and seeing a few bubbles or stretch marks and you think old, vintage, rustic.
Weathered wooden ladders definitely have a primitive rustic feel.
Wrought Iron Garden items like trellises, arbors, benches, and fencing are made by welding metal by hand and easily can be defined as Rustic.
Braided or Hooked rugs made from natural fibers have wonderful graphics that are truly works of art and many love their rustic touch.
I guess my brother will never work in the field of rustic home and garden decor and I will never sell plastic.
Country Living Comes Natural
Half a century has pasted and I still live 10 miles from a town on my family’s farm. I really love living here in my grandparent’s 162 year old home.
I have been very fortunate to live where the sounds and smells feel comfortable. Birds sing and frogs jump into my fish ponds each time I
wander by.
The old smoke house is needing paint so maybe this year we will get on that project. I have never seen an automobile in the building my family calls “the car shed”. Really we need to clean out all that junk stored in there. Probably some good primitives in there that I can sell on arusticgarden.com. One persons junk is another persons rustic garden decor. The old red barn roof is really beginning to sag. No need to worry about that. Doubt if there is a fix for that stately structure.
Not a day goes by that I don’t think about my Country Living and the good really out weighs any negatives. Maybe I will make it through the next half century.

Planning a Garden Enclosure
Our vintage style rod iron fencing that has no finish on it so it will rust just like the historical fencing you might see around century old homes. The bars are solid steel not hollow tubing so it would take more than a lifetime before you could ever see any noticeable weaknesses so your investment will last.
We have garden fencing that has been in front of our business for about 15 years and it is a bit darker colored but basically is still as strong as it was when we installed it. The wrought iron fencing that we would be shipping to our customers today is just a few months old so it is still a rusty orange color. At this stage the rust does come off on your hand if you rubbed it. After it is a few years old it will darken and look like an old iron fence, which is what most of our customers are looking for.
If you would like to send us a diagram or drawing of your fence project we can figure a quote. We are using a lot more of our steel posts these days which add more stability at the ends and around the gateways. Feel free to email or call us toll free with any other questions or concerns.

How to Begin a New Look?
Sometimes getting started is the biggest problem. Whether you are designing an outdoor patio, garden or even revamping your living spaces inside your home, the hard part is the deciding what to do first.
My sister needed to decorate her lake house large bedroom. Furniture was not the problem we have lots of antique cabinets to choose from. Color was the obstacle. The room was carpeted in a neutral color so we looked at area rugs to place on top the carpet to add color and she picked a design that fit her style. I would advise you to pick your accent that has at least 3 colors. Her rug was cream, golden brown and blue. The area rug’s brown color succeeded in tying the country furniture’s wood tone as well the curtains. There was a touch of blue in the rug that helped her choose accent colors for the bedding which created unique home decor
throughout.
Since the room was large she picked a small 5’ x 7’ rug to be placed adjacent to the bed to form a new sitting area. The entire plan came from one rug.
Your garden plan might begin with a fountain, statue or the color of your favorite flower. Whether you are working in your home or garden it will all come together once you find the first point of interest.
March Madness
For many that would mean Basketball. Yes I like basketball but I am not “Mad” about it. Still March Madness does define my state being this time of year.
I can not imagine residing in the part of the world that does not have 4 seasons but really winter could be a tad bit shorter for most everyone that I know. When March rolls around it seems to be just a tease. The weather is what everyone is talking about and yes they are “Mad”. Flower gardens are hinting that they might think about growing. The grass is turning to green but only those fertilized areas from the neighbors pets are starting to grow. $$ are still being spent because the furnace is still running.
Thank goodness April is almost here so I can plant my annual flowers and install my new outdoor water fountains. April Showers? I might just stay Mad.
My Favorite Things
Antique Furniture, Primitive Antiques and Country Decor are without a doubt some of my favorite things.
I have this early 1800’s cherry step back cupboard in it’s original red wash that I have had for years yet it still speaks to me. When I drive up to my home and the kitchen light is on it just glows. For me it is big and beautiful. Termites must have found the wood yummy years ago and ate one of it’s back leg but that does not lessen the WoW factor for me.
Most people have a favorite car, boat, dress or other things that they love but for me it is this 3 legged country antique cupboard that warms my heart.
