Unique Gift Ideas for Mom

Nobody wants to give their mom the same tired gift that she seems to receive far too often. Let’s face it; gifts like scented candles, gardening supplies, and jewelry are far too cliché for such a special person. Instead, consider purchasing one of these unique gifts that mom is sure to appreciate for a lifetime to come:

- Custom-Made Quilt: Mom is sure to appreciate this timeless gift, and even if she has other quilts, she won’t have one quite like this! Make sure to give the quilter some inspiration or even materials to make it extra special, such as silk ribbon.

- Foreign Cookbook: Several cookbooks that come from Europe or even other countries with partial English speaking populations have instructions in both a native language and English. Most mom’s love to cook, and a foreign cookbook just might inspire her desire. However, if your mom doesn’t like to cook, definitely avoid this gift!

- Garden Fountain: No garden is complete without a couple of outdoor fountains, and a stonework fountain is a great option instead of the traditional plants, flowers, or seeds.  You might also consider an indoor fountain for the wall.

6 Vintage Mantels

Out on a buying trip this weekend I found 6 antique mantels. I usually have one or two around but really 6 in once purchase is  a bit much. Architectural and country furniture are the antiques that I love to seek out.

I just could not pass them  by. Two of them are identical in old white paint. A couple more have unique trims that I liked. My favorite however was plain one with the original black surface.

This simple mantel was salvaged from a mid 1800’s brick home in eastern Missouri. The mantel was removed from the maids quarters located above the kitchen. Fireplaces would have been the main source of heat at the time the home was built.

Certainly the mantels throughout this historical home would have been much more elaborate but the owner would not have waisted even pennies on the maids accommodations.

Contemporary Uses for Area Rugs

Contrary to popular belief, an area rug is no longer just for the space underneath your dining room table, they are also practical for use in contemporary style.  Many people have started to use area rugs as wall art, to accent pieces of furniture, or to draw a room together. The truth is, most people don’t think about their floors when designing a room, but the floor is one of the most important parts. In fact, guests in your home are more likely to look at the floors than the walls.

Consider placing an area rug underneath your living room coffee table, or accentuate your favorite chair or couch with an area rug.  You can match fabric colors and patterns on your furniture to a unique area rug. An outdoor area rug is also a great way to spruce up a drab patio.

We are happy to accommodate our customers and try to  process our orders fast. The metal fencing is a trick to ship fast because most customers are enclosing their yards to keep their dogs or children safe so we trim the fence to fit each customers yard design. It is definitely the season for planting flowers all over the United States. The phone calls keep coming in at A Rustic Garden requesting information about our most classic flower pots, the cast iron urns. These planters add so much character to your landscaping projects. Many decorators also use them as accent pieces inside the home.

The indestructible metal flower containers will last for ever unless someone steals them. It is sad but every year we have a few purchased from us to replace vessels that thieves swipe right out of their yards. No one will be taking this huge angle urn planter since it weighs 1500 lbs.

This customer installed A Rustic Garden’s wrought iron interlocking fence on their corner lot. The look is outstanding. This picture speaks a a thousand words. To think this rod iron fencing is made right here in Illinois. That is rare these days with most consumer products including metal fencing being imported from China.

Thank you for sending us this picture of your finished project. It is obvious that you have an talent for landscaping and have a lovely home.

Investing in the Best

Abraham Lincoln said “Whatever you are, be a good one“.  Why would anyone want to be average? Each one of us have many areas that average could define us but we all have a few good attributes that mark our personalities. One person might be a good Mother, a good Artist or a good Carpenter.

When you are good at something you will enjoy it and in most of us we find a way to make our living doing what we enjoy and what we are good at.

This world we live in has become a disposable world. We change our cars, sofas and cloths because of the look. That is no excuse for not shopping for the best! Purchasing handmade furniture made in the USA will bring you more satisfaction and in the long run be the Best Investment for your $.

A Rustic Garden is now teaming up with the Michigan Furniture Manufacturing Co. Their area of expertise is making handmade furniture all with a country look just like our American ancestors did. Each piece is handmade to order for our customers with the surface colors to fit their style.

Why would you want to buy anything else when you can buy the “Best” and it is made right here in the USA.

Color my world

Color can make a difference and reflects your personality, in turn shaping your mood.

Festive place settings on your wrought iron garden furniture will perk up a garden party by contrasting against the outdoor color pallet of blue sky and summer greens.

Carry this thought in your home by adding a zip of color with new accent pillows or recover your ottoman with patterned fabric.

I like muted colors for my country decorating but add touches of bright red here and there to bring my space to life. Embrace life with color and watch your mood change.
