As homeowners we always have projects that need to be completed. With the cooler temperatures of autumn it is a great time to get outside and clean the spent flowers from your gardens and flower beds.

There is not a better time to add a wrought iron arbor, trellis or decorative fencing. Adding one of these metal garden products will give your landscape a focal point during the dormant winter season.

It  really is easier than you might think. DIY or Do It Yourself is fast when you purchase the right products. You can save lots of money  by not hiring a contractor to get the job done.

This rustic Wrought Iron Arbor now has a video to see how easy it is to install.

Choosing Your Garden Furniture

When you spend a lot of time in your yard, you may spend a lot of money on outdoor furniture. While many people may prefer to redecorate their kitchens or bedrooms, outdoor enthusiasts love nothing better than shopping for new yard furniture. But once you invest in a quality set of handmade furniture, you’ll want it to last for a while. It’s important to understand how exposure to the elements can affect your yard furniture.

Here are some things to consider when purchasing your outdoor furniture; is it waterproof? Is it treated with oils (like linseed oil) that will promote fungus growth? Will your furniture be close to a pool (chlorine can damage wood)? And, will the furniture be situated on the grass or cement? Once you have figured out the answers to these questions you can start your shopping.

Vintage Wooden Ladders for Decorating

Vintage antique wooden ladders are one of the most requested products here at  A Rustic Garden. Every day someone will walk through our business here in middle Illinois and ask, “What do you do with all those ladders?”

I have to laugh because it is kind of crazy. We have probably a hundred ladders to choose from and we are always  buying more from our pickers. Six different  buyers attend auctions in three states here in the middle of the US to find unusual products to sell to business owers, EBay and other web sites. On their travels they pick up ladders for us to sell.

We sell the old ladders AS IS or cut them to the length that our customers want. Many have paint dripping from years of home projects or we give the ladder a fresh coat of off white, black or even bright yellow. Whatever fits their decor.

Even though the trees have not quite started to turn the autumn colors are beginning to be in view. We are located in the middle of the US with fields of  corn and soybeans everywhere. The crops are drying to a great golden color and very soon the trees will be giving a vibrant bouquet of fall colors.

A Rustic Garden has a new line of fall products to brighten up your seasonal decorations. Of course they all have a rustic vintage look  and you will love them year after year . Halloween fun would not be complete without unique yard decor.

Choosing Classical Pieces

Modernism, in the framework of landscape design, is a result of functions and forms that echo the need for outdoor living spaces that promote contemporary lifestyles. Contemporary garden design is likely to focus on scale, as opposed to formal landscape designs that are based on axial relationships. It also passes by the more classic landscape design forms and larger scale from Roman, Greek, and classical architecture traditions.

This design motif became popular in the 1950’s baby boom, specifically in California where weather and lifestyle was very contributing to this innovative style. Nowadays, you can find a surfeit of unique home décor items to bring to imbue your home and garden with this style.
