History of Cast Iron
Cast iron has been used for ages for a variety of architectural and aesthetic purposes. To that end, cast iron was commonly used to make items such as wagon wheels and bridges. The metal itself has very specific qualities, and these qualities make its use limited to these specific purposes. With that in mind, cast iron is not useful when you need a sharp edge or any kind of flexibility. These characteristics have been true since its invention in China, when the metal was used to create figurines and various weapons.
Cast iron was also found to be useful in textile mills, where wooden frames were replaced by cast iron. This replacement was made in reaction to so many textile mills burning to the ground. Into the modern age, cast iron has extended its uses into the home decoration arena. Its durability has made it popular for such outdoor products as cast iron bird baths or even a cast iron stepping stone. Able to withstand outdoor conditions, cast iron is ideal for these items because it is not overly susceptible to rust or other kinds of outdoor weakening.

Cast iron also works well with wood in rustic style furniture.
