There were furniture shops but still the furniture was made buy hand using techniques that keep the cupboards strong for generations.

As if this wonder women is not busy enough Deb Ham has the bug to sew again and will be operating a new hand crafted business called Dutchridge Primitives. Her new creations will of course reflect her country decorating style. Vintage dolls and handmade toys are her signature but expect a unique line that will Salute America and special items that come with the Changing Seasons.

Sometimes getting started is the biggest problem. Whether you are designing an outdoor patio, garden or even revamping your living spaces inside your home, the hard part is the deciding what to do first. 

My sister needed to decorate her lake house large bedroom. Furniture was not the problem we have lots of antique cabinets to choose from. Color was the obstacle. The room was carpeted in a neutral color so we looked at area rugs to place on top the carpet to add color and she picked a design that fit her style. I would advise you to pick your accent that has at least 3 colors. Her rug was cream, golden brown and blue. The area rug’s brown color succeeded in tying the country furniture’s wood tone as well the curtains. There was a touch of blue in the rug that helped her choose accent colors for the bedding  which created unique home decor throughout. 

Since the room was large she picked a small 5’ x 7’ rug to be placed adjacent to the bed to form a new sitting area. The entire plan came from one rug. 

Your garden plan might begin with a fountain, statue or the color of your favorite flower. Whether you are working in your home or garden it will all come together once you find the first point of interest.

Just revamped our kitchen and did not spend much so that is a big plus. Used  repro tin ceiling tiles as the back splash. The cabinets were varnished oak so the colors blended too much so I got busy with the paint brush. Using a off white paint I covered the cabinets heavily then sanded the edges and scuffed them here and there. The next day I brushed on a dark Minwax stain then wiped it off. After it cured I brushed a semigloss  poly to protect them.

The results was awsome! The cabinets looks vintage and is a great contrast to the other surfaces and walls in the room. The final step was adding new rustic hardware.

Rustic Home Decor  is accomplished using color and texture. A braided rug can bring your homes interior colors together and ad that primitive rustic feel.

To country decorate your walls use wood, metal and fabic. A hand crafted wooden shelf might be a great accent with a vintage quilt draped over its hook.
